About
Alex is a musician and designer from Portland, OR. Having studied music at Lewis & Clark College and Portland State, he has been performing, teaching, and producing music in the greater PDX area for over a decade. As an artist, Alex has had the opportunity to work as a freelancer with clients like Posi-Tone Records, and Kaizen Kreed.
After graduating from West Linn High School in 2011, Alex received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition from Lewis & Clark College in 2014, followed by a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Portland State University in 2016. At Portland State he played bass in PDX Collective, one of the country’s premier vocal jazz ensembles.
Alex has performed with, and led groups at festivals and venues all across the Pacific NW area including performances at Revolution Hall, The Roseland Theater, Jimmy Mak’s, The Star Theater, Doug Fir Lounge, The Goodfoot, and The Jack London Revue. His compositions and arrangements reflect a wide array of styles, including jazz, classical, R&B, and pop. He has written big band jazz tunes, string quartets, orchestral pieces, jazz combo tunes, solo piano pieces, classical guitar quartets, choral music, pop songs, jazz rock songs, and R&B/funk tunes.
Also in demand as an educator, Alex has taught lessons and lead clinics all over Portland. From 2016-2020, he led a jazz ensemble at West Linn High School. He also teaches private bass, piano, and composition lessons, and has been a featured clinician and teacher at various High Schools and Middle Schools in the area. Alex has also helped lead classes and substitute for the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Portland Youth Philharmonic.
Alex has been an art and design lover, and is encouraged to continue growing and increasing his visual art output. He continues to illustrate and pursue creative freelance work. Connecting to the music scene by way of illustration and design has also been an incredible opportunity, and has helped forge some great connections with other musicians.
